To clarify,  the system and software requirements for Shaderlight are at the moment 3ds Max 2008 and 3ds Max 2009 running on 64bit Windows XP and Vista.

The compatability for Max 2010 and Windows 7 is in the system being worked on, so this will be coming soon however the RAM requirements mean that for the foreseeable future it will only be 64bit.

The general blurb on the website suggests the we need 8gb of RAM.  I've got 6gb on a new Corei7 PC with XP64 OS, is this going to be too little? Do I need to increace my RAM or do I just have to wait longer for the same results?

regards DA

You will be able to run Shaderlight but you will have limitations whilst in Autoupdate mode as Shaderlight tries to fit all Material, environment, light and texture information into your physical memory so you can make changes to these parameters at interactive speeds. You can use the Melt allocation to limit the amount of ram shaderlight uses so you do not run out of memory. If you set an initial size of 1 to 2 gigs in your melt allocation option box you should be able to fit reasonably complicated scene into your 6 gig without to many problems. If you reach your memory limit try reducing this until you find the right amount for your machine. You can find more info about the melt allocation here.
