Helllloooo

Ok so I've spoted this render software yesterday and I'd like to have some fun with it... what I need to know b4 I buy it is:

License : Can I use for comercial purpose?

updates... any idea how they going to work ? free/pay ? and will it be possible to autoupdate?

Now moving forward .... I've spoted  Shader light help with all info I need but I just want to ask again just to make stuff clear...

So what I need to know is :

Materials:

Can I blend? Shellac/Vrayblend/ etc etc

Can shader emit light? (self illu etc etc)

Displacement... I've spot that it cant be dont other way than manualy... will it be implemented? Id love to see it to work like vray does...but with lil more controll

Can I use any composite maps etc etc that we can use with other renders... (ofc not the Arch&des/vraymtl etc etc)

PROXY - most important one... is it avaible/will it be avaible... no proxy no fun :) / animated proxy

Pass rendering is avaible from what I can see material id/objec it/beauty/etc etc. during the animation will they all be saved?

Can I use backburner

Can I render 1 scene using more than 1 pc (distributiion buckets/split scanlines(if im not wrong)

Can I use dual quad core xeon nehelem + 1 more station as 1 render farm to proces 1 render / or just dual quad xeon

uhh moving back to light I've seen that it is possible but ill still ask... soft shadows/hard shadows posible?

Causitcs ?

Enviorment maps - fog/volumetric fog / volumetric light etc etc

eeee exposure control ? I saw on 1 vid that it is possible...but still :)

humh I think I've covered all topics that I would need to be able to do with render... :) I know that its all in help file/pdf I've spoted most of them but still if they arent working can we fake it/ will it be avaible?~~ when :)

Thanx for all replys and cya around :)

Thanks for your post - I'll try to answer as many of your questions as I can!

License : Can I use for comercial purpose?

Yes of course, but do bear in mind that v0.3 is a pre-release version of Shaderlight.

updates... any idea how they going to work ? free/pay ? and will it be possible to autoupdate?

Anyone buying v0.3 now will receive Shaderlight 1.0 at half price. Subsequent point releases will be free to existing customers - beyond that major releases will probably entail an upgrade fee. There are no plans currently to make Shaderlight auto-update, but if there's sufficient demand we'll certainly consider it.

Can I blend? Shellac/Vrayblend/ etc etc

We made a conscious decision not to prioritise some of the 3ds Max materials and maps. The Composite material achieves all the functionality of both Blend and Shellac and is more flexible.

Can shader emit light? (self illu etc etc)

The Art Professional Material supports self illumination, but as yet does not contribute to scene lighting.

Displacement... I've spot that it cant be dont other way than manualy... will it be implemented? Id love to see it to work like vray does...but with lil more controll

We do have plans to implement more sophisticated displacement rendering, but this will not be in the 1.0 release.

Can I use any composite maps etc etc that we can use with other renders... (ofc not the Arch&des/vraymtl etc etc)

Shaderlight supports only the Max Composite material. We do plan to support the Arch&Design material, possibly for v1.0.

PROXY - most important one... is it avaible/will it be avaible... no proxy no fun :) / animated proxy

Shaderlight only partially supports Proxy objects. When enabled, proxy objects will render in place of the Xref object. However, it isn't possible to have the proxy object in the viewport and render the Xref object or vice-versa.Pass rendering is avaible from what I can see material id/objec it/beauty/etc etc. during the animation will they all be saved?

You can save out passes from a still rendered image - While you can render out a beauty pass as an animation, we're still working on rendering passes over an animation sequence

Can I use backburner Can I render 1 scene using more than 1 pc (distributiion buckets/split scanlines(if im not wrong) Can I use dual quad core xeon nehelem + 1 more station as 1 render farm to proces 1 render / or just dual quad xeon

Currently Shaderlight doesn't support any form of network rendering.

uhh moving back to light I've seen that it is possible but ill still ask... soft shadows/hard shadows posible?

Yes, Shaderlight supports Max area lights for soft shadowsCausitcs ?

Caustics will be supported in the future, but not for v1.0 Enviorment maps - fog/volumetric fog / volumetric light etc etc.  Environment maps are fully supported, including HDR images and Skylight. We don't currently support atmospheric effects.eeee exposure control ? I saw on 1 vid that it is possible...but still :)

Shaderlight has interactive exposure control so that you can fine tune the exposure of the image as a MELT change.

humh I think I've covered all topics that I would need to be able to do with render... :) I know that its all in help file/pdf I've spoted most of them but still if they arent working can we fake it/ will it be avaible?~~ when :)

The online help has a lot of useful information, but if there's anything missing we'd like to know so that we can add to it in future.

Shaderlight is still developing, but we are trying to bring genuine workflow benefits to the rendering process. For that reason we're always keen to hear from 3D artists about what's important to them and what they want to see and any feedback, good and bad. Keep it coming!
